“Unlimited revisions”
Nobody offers unlimited work at a fixed price. It means the scope is undefined — and undefined scope is where budgets die.
100% upfront
Standard is a 30–50% deposit with milestone payments. Full payment before work removes your only leverage.
No warranty period
30 days post-launch is the norm. Zero warranty days means every launch bug is your problem, on your dime.
Vague line items
“Website development: $6,000” tells you nothing. Ask for hours per feature so you can compare quotes at all.
No SEO preservation on a redesign or migration
URL mapping, 301 redirects and structured-data re-implementation are the line items cheap quotes skip — and the reason traffic drops after launch.
The questions to ask before you sign
What are the payment milestones?
You want deposit → milestone → launch, not all-upfront.
How many hours per major feature?
Turns a lump sum into something you can actually compare.
Is the integration one-way or two-way, and how many sync rules?
A “simple sync” quoted at $3,500 can become $11,000+ once it’s bi-directional with real rules.
On a migration: is URL mapping and redirect work a line item?
If it isn’t written down, it isn’t being done — and organic traffic pays for it.
What’s the customer-account migration plan?
Moving platforms usually forces every customer to reset their password. Someone has to plan and pay for that.
What’s the warranty and what does it cover?
Bug fixes vs. “new work” — get the boundary in writing.
Who owns the code, accounts and domain at the end?
You should. Confirm it before, not after.
What happens if scope changes mid-project?
A clear change-order process protects both sides from the awkward conversation later.
What a fair quote includes
